Wayne Brady to Host the 35TH Annual GLAAD Media Awards

GLAAD, the world’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) media advocacy organization, today announced that multiple Emmy Award-winning and Grammy Award-nominated actor, producer, singer, dancer, songwriter, author, and television personality Wayne Brady will host the 35th Annual GLAAD Media Awards Los Angeles at the Beverly Hilton on Thursday, March 14, 2024.

The GLAAD Media Awards honor media for fair, accurate, and inclusive representations of LGBTQ people and issues. Since 1990, the GLAAD Media Awards have grown to be the most visible annual LGBTQ awards show in the world, sending powerful messages of acceptance to audiences globally.

“It is with immense pride that I was asked to host this year’s GLAAD Media Awards ceremony, celebrating a community that has welcomed me with open arms,” said Brady. “The stories created by and for LGBTQ people bring us closer to a world of unity, inclusivity and acceptance and I’m honored to help recognize the valuable contributions the queer community has made in entertainment and media.”

A true multi-hyphenate, Brady’s career path and personal life journey have helped him see the world in a unique way. Brady made his mark on stage and screen and has set out to create new content across different platforms that showcase innovation and inclusivity in fun and powerful ways.

Brady will be seen in the upcoming Hulu docuseries Wayne Brady: The Family Remix. The show follows his blended family, including his ex-wife, best friend and business partner Mandie Taketa, their21-year-old daughter Maile, and Mandie’s life partner Jason. The series is produced by Wayne and Mandie’s joint production company, A Wayne and Mandie Creative, along with Fremantle.

This spring Brady returns to Broadway in the all-new production of The Wiz, leading the cast as the titular character. The highly-anticipated musical features award-winning creatives and producers including Schele Williams, Common, Amber Ruffin, Sharen Davis, Deborah Cox,Nichelle Lewis and many other talents.

A five-time Emmy winner (the first to win Daytime and Primetime awards in two consecutive years), Brady has an impressive TV resume including Whose Line Is It Anyway?, The Masked Singer, Dancing With The Stars, Black Lightning, The Good Fight, and Showtime’s American Gigolo – each spotlighting different aspects of his immense talent.

In addition to being a force in front of the camera, Brady is heavily active behind the scenes wearing the hats of host & executive producer for Let’s Make A Deal, Game of Talents, and Comedy IQ, which he also co-created through his production company. All of this follows on the heels of the success of his award-winning daytime talk show The Wayne Brady Show.

Long an accomplished singer and performer, Brady’s musical acumen has always been a personal passion and he used that as fuel to help win the second season of TheMasked Singer. Off his victory, Brady dropped a brand-new original single, entitled “Flirtin’ w/ Forever,” which quickly climbed the streaming charts, as well as an accompanying music video. He earned him a Grammy Award nomination in the Best Traditional R&B Vocal Performance category for Sam Cooke’s “A Change is Gonna Come.”

Advocacy is core to Brady’s life. He champions the need for more resources and better understanding of mental health issues, especially in the Black community. Brady’s public announcement about his pansexuality brings awareness to an underrepresented community and he continues to support and promote LGBTQ causes and organizations such as GLAAD, GLSEN, Broadway Backwards and Gay Men’s Chorus of Los Angeles. Brady isa longtime supporter of the Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, Alzheimer’s Foundation of America and SAY The Stuttering Association for the Young.

Nominees for the 35th Annual GLAAD Media Awards reflect work published, released, or broadcast between January 1and December 31, 2023. During the Los Angeles ceremony, GLAAD will announce award recipients for LGBTQ representation in categories that span film, TV, news, and Spanish-language media. A New York Ceremony will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2024.

Mary J. Blige’s ‘Strength of a Woman’ festival and summit lineup for 2024 has been announced!

In a twist from its first two years, Mary J. Blige’s Strength of a Woman Festival and Summit is moving from Atlanta to hip-hop’s birthplace, New York City. Presented by the Queen of Hip-Hop Soul and Pepsi in partnership with Live Nation Urban, the annual event will take place once again during Mother’s Day weekend: May 10-12.

Highlighting this year’s three-day slate will be a concert at Barclays starring Blige and special guests 50 Cent, Jill Scott, Fat Joe, Jadakiss, Muni Long, Lola Brooke and Funk Flex. Also on the festival lineup: a comedy show at the Apollo Theatre featuring Tiffany Haddish, Don’t Call Me White Girl and Paris Sashay; a jazz concert at the Blue Note with Robert Glasper and a Blige-hosted gospel brunch at the Brooklyn Chophouse in Times Square followed by a gospel concert headlined by The Clark Sisters with Femme It Forward at Brooklyn Paramount.

The Strength of a Woman Summit will take place at The Glasshouse on May 11. Hosted by Angie Martinez, the programming will include a series of inspiring and empowering panels, keynote speakers and workshops focusing on music, wellness, technology, beauty and financial literacy.

Dorinda Clark-Cole, Jonathan McReynolds To Be Honored at BMI’s Trailblazers of Gospel Music Awards

BMI (Broadcast Music, Inc.) will pay tribute to the songwriters and publishers behind the best in Gospel at the 2024 BMI Trailblazers of Gospel Music Awards, held at Flourish Atlanta on Thursday, March 28th. Gospel legend and world-renowned evangelist Dorinda Clark-Cole will receive the evening’s highest honor as a Trailblazer of Gospel in recognition of her illustrious career spanning over 50 years and incomparable influence on the genre and beyond. Jonathan McReynolds will receive the BMI Champion Award for his exceptional artistry and impact on Gospel music, marking the first time this accolade has been presented at this ceremony. The private event will be hosted by BMI President & CEO Mike O’Neill and BMI Vice President, Creative, Atlanta, Catherine Brewton.

“We’re thrilled to be recognizing our BMI family of songwriters and publishers for their contributions to Gospel music and the Gospel community,” said Brewton. “When I think of a trailblazer in Gospel music, Dorinda stands out as a pioneering figure. The Clark Sisters are among the legends of Gospel, and Dorinda’s distinctive jazzy sound lends a unique brilliance to the group. I’m so proud to be honoring her work and highlighting the impact she’s made on the genre and community through her music and evangelism. We’re also paying tribute to one of the most incredible voices in Gospel, Jonathan McReynolds, whose music is often referred to as ‘life’ songs, speaking to the hearts of all. We’re looking forward to celebrating all of our honorees and bringing the community together for an afternoon of faith, fellowship and incredible music.”

Throughout the ceremony, BMI will also recognize the songwriters, producers and music publishers of the past year’s 25 most-performed Gospel songs in the United States. The BMI Gospel Song, Songwriter and Publisher of the Year will also be named during the inspirational event.

Dorinda Clark-Cole, known as the “Rose of Gospel Music,” is a multiple award-winning singer/songwriter, a talk show host, and world-renowned evangelist. Born and raised in Detroit, Clark–Cole is the daughter of pioneering choral director Mattie Moss Clark, and is best known as a member of The Clark Sisters, one of the most successful and groundbreaking Gospel music groups of all time. Some of the iconic group’s crossover hits include “Blessed & Highly Favored,” “Hallelujah,” “He Gave Me Nothing to Lose,” “Jesus Is A Love Song,” “Pure Gold,” “Expect A Miracle,” and “You Brought The Sunshine,” to name a few. Throughout Clark-Cole’s remarkable career she’s received many accolades as part of The Clark Sisters and as a solo artist, including two GRAMMY Awards, two Dove Awards, three BMI Awards, 13 Stellar Gospel Music Awards and a Lady of Soul Award. The sisters also received a Lifetime Achievement honor at this year’s GRAMMY Awards, which followed a James Cleveland Lifetime Achievement Award at the Stellar Awards in 2020 and induction to the Black Music & Entertainment Hall of Fame in 2022. In 2020, The Clark Sisters: The First Ladies of Gospel biopic, produced by Mary J. Blige, Missy Elliott and Queen Latifah, premiered on Lifetime to over 20 million viewers.

Mastering a balance between music and evangelism, Clark-Cole currently serves as International Elect Lady of the International Department of Evangelism (IDOE) to the Church of God in Christ and is the church administrator for Greater Emmanuel Institutional Church of God in Christ.

Born and raised on the Southside of Chicago, Jonathan McReynolds cultivated his love for music at an early age in church and continues to share his music, heart, and journey as he travels the world professing the Gospel through his inspiring song ministry. The award-winning singer/songwriter has released six full-length albums including his 2018 release Make Room, which debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Gospel charts, winning eight Stellar Awards and earning two GRAMMY nominations. In 2020, he released, People, which garnered his first GRAMMY for Best Gospel Performance/Song for his hit single “Moving On.” His latest release My Truth (2023) spent several weeks on Billboard’s Gospel charts and earned McReynolds a Dove Award for Contemporary Gospel/Urban Recorded Song of the Year for his single “Your World” and a GRAMMY nomination for Best Gospel Album. McReynolds has also received four BMI Awards and was named BMI’s Gospel Songwriter of the Year in 2023.

In addition to his successful career in music, Jonathan has a Master of Arts in Biblical Studies from Moody Theological Seminary and founded Elihu Nation, a nonprofit organization that has awarded tens of thousands of dollars in scholarships to youth across the country.

The pregnancy was not easy and we made it through,” the Wonder Woman actress, 38, captioned a hospital pic of herself snuggling her newborn daughter via Instagram on Wednesday, March 6. “You have brought so much light into our lives, living up to your name, Ori, which means ‘my light’ in Hebrew. Our hearts are full of gratitude.”

Gadot went on to welcome her daughter into her family’s “house of girls,” adding, “Daddy is pretty cool too 😉❤️.” Gadot and Varsano, 49, also share daughters Alma, 12, Maya, 6, and Daniella, 2.

Gadot’s baby news came as a surprise to fans as she had not publicly revealed her pregnancy. “Everyone knows that the only thing superior to Wonder Woman is Mother Woman 😇,” one Instagram user wrote in the post’s comments, while another stated, “Mazal tov!! I’m sure she’s beautiful like her mama!!”
