Drake is facing a new copyright infringement lawsuit over his chart-topping single “Janice STFU.” Songwriter Aviel Calev Hirschfield alleges that the rapper used a chorus from his previously submitted demo without providing songwriting credit or compensation. Drake’s representatives have strongly denied the allegations.
According to Billboard, Hirschfield, professionally known as GoodbyeCalev, filed a copyright infringement lawsuit against Drake, OVO Sound and Universal Music Group on October 16th. The songwriter claims the chorus of “Janice STFU” closely matches a demo he developed between December 2025 and January 2026. He alleges that the released song uses the same lyrics, melody and cadence without acknowledging his contribution.
Hirschfield claims he created the demo using an instrumental supplied by production duo FNZ and incorporated elements of Lykke Li’s “I Follow Rivers.” He says he submitted the recording to producers associated with Drake but never received a response. After hearing the finished song on Drake’s Iceman album in May, Hirschfield sought songwriting credit and publishing royalties, alleging that his work had been used without permission.
The lawsuit seeks damages and a share of profits generated by the song, which spent two weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. Drake’s representatives have rejected the accusations, maintaining that the rapper wrote the chorus himself. The legal dispute remains unresolved, and the allegations have not been established in court.
