The life and musical legacy of Amy Winehouse are being developed into a new stage musical for London’s West End. The project will celebrate the late singer’s extraordinary career and influential catalog, with Tony Award-winning producer Catherine Schreiber attached.

According to The Guardian, a musical inspired by Winehouse’s life and music is in early development for London’s West End. Producer Catherine Schreiber, whose credits include Cabaret and Rent, is attached to the production. Casting is reportedly underway, although a premiere date has not been announced.
Winehouse’s father, Mitch Winehouse, is also involved in the developing project. He previously expressed interest in creating a stage production that would celebrate his daughter’s life and musical accomplishments beyond her personal struggles. The singer, who died in 2011 at age 27, remains celebrated for songs including “Rehab,” “Back to Black,” and “Valerie.”
The announcement comes amid renewed attention surrounding the twentieth anniversary of Winehouse’s acclaimed album Back to Black. A tribute concert at London’s Roundhouse featured artists including Jorja Smith, Corinne Bailey Rae, and Jessie Reyez. An expanded anniversary edition of the album is also planned, featuring additional recordings and previously unreleased material.
