Arlene Blencowe took on Dayana Silva July 16th, with Blencowe stopping the game by TKO in the third round at Bellator 262.
“I feel great. I want to give a shout out to my kids at home. I’ve been away from home for nine weeks and it’s the longest I’ve ever been without my kids. So, this win is for you,” says Blencowe. “I was just trying to gauge my distance. It was starting to be a little bit of a slow fight, so sorry about that fans. I could hear you yelling. But I was determined to keep my pace and not rush into anything. We knew that she swung with power and that the overhand right and the left hook came pretty quick. We’ve been working a lot on kicks, and I’m going to have a lot of bruises tomorrow. And hopefully her calves will be sore too.”
Arlene Blencowe took on Dayana Silva in a fight that had women’s featherweight ranking implications. Blencowe was coming off a loss to Cris “Cyborg” Justino for the Bellator women’s featherweight title but was 6-1 in her previous seven to the Justino fight. For Dayana Silva, she fought the top two contenders for Justino’s title and nearly defeated the current number one in the division in Julia Budd, which doubled as Silva’s Bellator debut. She lost but nearly defeated Budd, losing by split decision.
Blencowe and Silva had a good back and forth fight during the first two rounds, with Silva even getting a takedown on Blencowe to close the second round, but a barrage of strikes mere seconds into the third round rocked Silva and set up Blencowe to get on top of Silva and drop a few more shots before having the fight stopped. Blencowe officially stopped Silva by TKO, one minute into the third round.
Bellator 262 took place on July 16, 2021, live from Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncansville, CT.
