The Super Mario Galaxy Movie continues its box office domination, officially becoming the highest-grossing film of 2026 so far.

According to Variety, the animated sequel has taken the global box office by storm, surpassing major competitors and solidifying its place as the top-grossing film of the year. The film has earned over $600 million worldwide, making it a standout success despite mixed reviews.

It has outperformed other major releases, including Project Hail Mary, which also crossed significant milestones at the box office.

While questions remain about whether it will reach the $1 billion mark, the film’s performance has already secured its place as one of the biggest hits of 2026. While the film’s ticket sales continue to climb toward the $1 billion mark, it is in competition with major upcoming films such as “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey,” “Toy Story 5” and “Avengers: Doomsday” to retain the crown through the rest of the year. Universal’s prior “Mario” film, 2023’s “The Super Mario Bros. Movie,” became the second-highest-grossing release of that year with $1.3 billion.
