Tyler Perry is preparing for a major change in 2027, revealing plans to move to Puerto Rico with his 11-year-old son, Aman, while significantly scaling back his demanding entertainment workload. During a recent appearance on TODAY with Jenna & Sheinelle, the filmmaker and media mogul said he wants to spend more time with his son and focus on a different pace of life.

In a new interview on Today with Jenna & Sheinelle on Monday, Sept. 14, Perry revealed his plans to move for the first time.

“Yep, moving to Puerto Rico at the top of the year, and I’m pulling back a whole lot,” he told reporter Justin Sylvester when asked if he ever plans to “chill out” in his career.

Perry, who celebrated his birthday last week, said the decision came as he grows more aware of his age.

“Getting older [inspired this],” he said. “It’s time to slow down a bit, enjoy more time with my son and just take it all in.”

Perry shares his son with ex-girlfriend Gelila Bekele, whom he dated from 2009 to 2020. He said he never intends on tying the knot.
