Disney+ is developing a new science-fiction television project inspired by one of Walt Disney World’s most recognizable attractions. Actors Catherine Laga’aia and Deacon Phillippe have been cast in the pilot for Spaceship Earth, a new adventure series based on the iconic EPCOT attraction. The casting brings together the star of Disney’s 2026 live-action Moana and the son of Hollywood actors Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe.

According to Deadline, the upcoming project follows a group of teenagers from different periods of Earth’s history who must work together after a mission intended to prevent a global catastrophe goes wrong. As the characters encounter an extraordinary threat involving time itself, they are forced to confront challenges extending beyond their individual experiences and historical backgrounds. The pilot is being developed by Jason Fuchs, who serves as writer, executive producer, and showrunner. Michael Waldron is also attached as a writer and executive producer, while Lee Toland Krieger will direct and executive produce the project.

Laga’aia gained international attention after being selected to portray Moana in Disney’s live-action adaptation alongside Dwayne Johnson. Her previous television credits include The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart. Phillippe has appeared in projects including Netflix’s Never Have I Ever and Prime Video’s Motorheads. He is also involved in the upcoming Netflix romantic comedy Better Than the Movies, adapted from Lynn Painter’s young adult novel. The Spaceship Earth pilot is being developed through several production partnerships, including Five Ten Productions and Anomaly Pictures. Disney+ has not announced a series premiere date or confirmed a full-season order.

The project represents another effort to transform Disney’s theme park attractions into original screen entertainment while introducing younger performers to an ambitious science-fiction adventure.
