According to People, Knowles and Rowland will serve as team captains for birthFUND at Houston’s inaugural Third Ward Mile on November 28th. The event will take place in the city’s historic Third Ward neighborhood, where Knowles raised Beyoncé and Solange and opened her former hair salon, Headliners. Both women are longtime supporters and family funders of birthFUND, a nonprofit focused on improving maternal healthcare access.

Founded by Elaine Welteroth, birthFUND works to address the maternal mortality crisis by expanding access to midwifery-led care and supporting families during pregnancy and childbirth. Knowles emphasized the importance of returning to the community that helped raise her family. Rowland also expressed her commitment to ensuring mothers feel safe, supported and valued throughout their childbirth experiences.

The Third Ward Mile welcomes participants ages six and older, with donations supporting birthFUND’s community initiatives. The November 28th event begins at 8 a.m. and includes a community walk, athletic competitions and activities at Emancipation Park. Attendees can also enjoy music, local vendors, wellness experiences and family activities supported by event sponsors.
