Indio Downey, the musician and eldest son of Robert Downey Jr., has secured his first leading film role in the upcoming independent drama Love in Vein. Written and directed by Will De Los Santos, the project will explore addiction, relationships and self-destruction through a story set in Los Angeles.

According to Deadline, Indio Downey will star as Damien in Love in Vein, an adaptation of the late Ryan Leone’s novel Wasting Talent. The story follows a musician navigating addiction, complicated relationships and survival within Los Angeles’ underground scene. The project marks Downey’s first leading role in a feature film.
Will De Los Santos, who previously worked on Spun, is writing and directing the adaptation. The filmmaker intends to preserve the novel’s exploration of dependency, love and destructive behavior. The film will be produced by Chris Hanley, Orson Oblowitz, Tricia van Klaveren and Ben D. Wallace, with Jeffrey Gliwa serving as an executive producer and financier.
Downey previously appeared alongside his father in the 2005 film Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and has pursued a career in music. Producer Chris Hanley previously worked with Robert Downey Jr. on Two Girls and a Guy, creating another connection between the filmmaker and the Downey family. Principal photography for Love in Vein is scheduled for March and April 2027 in Los Angeles, with additional casting underway.
