Disney is preparing to revisit the magical world of Halloweentown, with a fifth installment of the beloved fantasy franchise in early development at Disney Channel and Disney+. The potential movie comes 20 years after the franchise’s fourth installment, Return to Halloweentown.

According to TheWrap, writers Lily Houghton and Ryan Koehn are developing a script for the potential fifth film. The project is based on characters created by Paul Bernbaum, who wrote the original 1998 Disney Channel movie. The film remains in early development, with no official release date or confirmed cast.
The original franchise followed Marnie Piper, a teenager who discovers that she comes from a family of witches. Kimberly J. Brown portrayed Marnie in the first three films before Sara Paxton took over the role in Return to Halloweentown in 2006. It remains unclear whether either actress will return for the new project.
The franchise continues attracting audiences through Disney+, where the four films have accumulated approximately 160 million streaming hours globally. The original Halloweentown also ranked among the platform’s ten most-watched Halloween movies last October. The potential sequel would continue one of Disney Channel’s most recognizable fantasy franchises.
