The Transformers franchise is entering another chapter with one of Hollywood’s most celebrated filmmakers playing a major role behind the scenes. Steven Spielberg is set to oversee creative aspects of Paramount Pictures’ developing eighth live-action Transformers film.
According to Variety, Spielberg will executive produce and oversee creative aspects alongside producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura. Jason Fuchs is writing the movie, while a director and principal cast have not yet been announced. Variety also reports that the planned Transformers/G.I. Joe crossover is no longer moving forward, with a separate G.I. Joe project instead in development with Danny McBride.
With Spielberg becoming more closely involved in the franchise’s creative direction, Paramount appears ready to reconnect the next Transformers installment with the tone and blockbuster appeal that helped turn the property into a global theatrical powerhouse.
