Chaka Khan may not remember exactly how she first met Lenny Kravitz, but she knew she wanted him on her new album. The music legend recruited Kravitz for “Bring the Party,” one of several high-profile collaborations featured on Chakzilla, Khan’s first full-length project in seven years.

The “I’m Every Woman” icon, 73, released her new album Chakzilla on Friday, Sept. 18, including a new collaboration with Kravitz, 62, titled “Bring the Party” that arrives after years of friendship between the two musicians.
“I’ve known Lenny for some time,” Khan tells PEOPLE at the SiriusXM headquarters in N.Y.C. “I was thinking of what guys I would like to have on my CD, on my album, and he came up as one of the top three I’d like to have to be part of the whole thing.”
The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame member describes Kravitz as a “wonderful” and “great guy” but admits she doesn’t remember how they met. “I really, really, honestly don’t,” says Khan. “We’re both very busy, and whenever we get a chance to see each other, we do.”
Kravitz is only one of the familiar names joining Khan for her latest musical chapter. Sia appears on “Cool You Down,” while Snoop Dogg contributes to “Boogie’s in My Soul,” helping Khan make Chakzilla a cross-generational celebration as she returns with her first album since 2019.
