Chaka Khan is making it clear that she’s perfectly content living life on her own terms. The legendary singer, known as the Queen of Funk, recently opened up about her personal life and revealed that she has no plans to pursue another marriage or relationship, saying she is officially “partnered out.” Khan, 73, has been married twice and explained that she would rather let life unfold naturally than actively search for a partner.

The Queen of Funk, 73, gave a candid relationship update in a new interview with the UK’s The Observer, where she was asked about the inspiration behind a lyric on her upcoming album, “Chakzilla.” She declined to elaborate, explaining that talking too openly about what she wants tends to backfire. “I’m just going to mosey along and let life do what it do,” she told The Observer.
Khan has been married twice. Her first marriage, to Hassan Khan in 1970 when she was just 17, ended in divorce a year later. She later married Richard Holland in 1976; the couple had a son, Damien, before divorcing in 1980. Between the two marriages, Khan welcomed a daughter, Indira, now 52, with Rahsaan Morris in 1973.
The singer has been open in the past about how those marriages shaped her view of relationships. In a 2017 interview with The Guardian, she said both husbands left her unsure whether they loved her or the persona attached to her stage name. “It would take a man of biblical proportions for me to marry again,” she said at the time.
