Former Home Improvement star Jonathan Taylor Thomas was arrested following an encounter with authorities in Westlake Village, California. The 45-year-old actor was a passenger in a vehicle approached by Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies and was subsequently arrested on suspicion of obstruction and public intoxication.

According to booking records from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department obtained by Entertainment Weekly, the Home Improvement star, whose real name is Jonathan Taylor Weiss, was detained at the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station on Monday, Sept. 21, and released the following day.
Lost Hills deputies were patrolling the area of Westlake Boulevard and Townsgate Road in Westlake Village and saw a vehicle stopped at the intersection with a green light blocking traffic on Sept. 21, a press release from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department shared with Entertainment Weekly alleges.
“Deputies pulled alongside the vehicle to see if the driver needed assistance. Deputies noticed the driver was acting odd and appeared to be intoxicated. Deputies conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle for the violation and conducted a driving under the influence investigation.”
“While field sobriety tests were being performed on the driver, the passenger (Jonathan Weiss) appeared intoxicated, continually exited the vehicle and approached the deputies, distracting them from their investigation,” the statement continued, noting that as deputies attempted to detain Weiss for “obstruction and public intoxication,” the former actor “kicked a deputy in the stomach.”
He was then “arrested, transported, and booked at the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station on the aforementioned charges.” “The driver of the vehicle was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.”
Thomas was booked at the Malibu/Lost Hills station before being released. The incident marks a rare return to headlines for the former child star, who largely stepped away from Hollywood after becoming one of television’s most recognizable young actors during the 1990s.
