Nearly three decades after the murder of hip-hop icon Tupac Shakur, a Las Vegas court has sentenced former gang leader Duane “Keffe D” Davis to 40 years to life in prison. The sentencing follows his conviction for orchestrating the 1996 drive-by shooting that claimed the rapper’s life.

According to Reuters via KSL, Davis, 63, was sentenced on October 13th, 2026, after being convicted of first-degree murder in August. He received two consecutive terms of 20 years to life for murder and use of a deadly weapon.
Prosecutors argued that Davis orchestrated the shooting following an altercation involving his nephew and members of Shakur’s entourage at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Shakur was shot on September 7th, 1996, and died six days later at age 25. Davis, who was not accused of personally firing the shots, has indicated that he plans to appeal his conviction.
