Steve Martin and Grammy-winning banjo musician Alison Brown are putting a fresh spin on Lil Nas X’s record-breaking hit “Old Town Road.” The duo has released a bluegrass reinterpretation of the song, blending traditional instrumentation with Martin’s signature humor.
According to RTTNews, Martin and Brown released their version of “Old Town Road” through Compass Records, featuring bluegrass performers Del McCoury and Dan Tyminski.
The recording replaces the original song’s country-trap production with banjos, mandolin, fiddle and bass. Martin contributed new lyrics, while Brown developed the arrangement.
The release follows their 2025 collaborative album, Safe, Sensible and Sane. Lil Nas X’s original “Old Town Road,” featuring Billy Ray Cyrus, spent 19 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2019.
