Dolly Parton has been laid to rest following a private family funeral in Nashville. The country music legend’s niece, Lainey Parton, confirmed in an emotional tribute that Parton was laid to rest on August 28, three days after her death at age 80. The intimate service honored Parton’s wish for a quiet farewell surrounded by immediate family.

“I wanted to wait until after my granny was laid to rest yesterday before I tried to put any of this into words,” Lainey Parton wrote of her “Aunt Granny.”
“From the time I was little, my granny always had a way of making me feel like I was enough. She never made my dreams feel too big or made me feel like I couldn’t do something. She believed in me before I even knew how to believe in myself.
Lainey went on to thank fans and supporters for their love, and ended with a final message to Dolly: “Thank you for always believing in me, loving me, and making me feel like I could do anything.”
Dolly had made it clear before her death that she wanted a “small, private service” for immediate family, the singer’s team shared in a statement.
Parton was laid to rest at Nashville’s Woodlawn Memorial Park and Mausoleum beside her husband of nearly 60 years, Carl Dean, who died in March 2025. The private farewell reflected Parton’s wishes to keep the moment intimate, bringing her closest loved ones together as fans around the world continue celebrating the music, generosity and legacy she left behind.
