Taika Waititi has revealed that his long-awaited Star Wars movie is no longer moving forward as originally planned. The Oscar-winning filmmaker confirmed that the project has been placed on hold while he and Lucasfilm explore other opportunities.
According to Variety Australia, Waititi confirmed the news while promoting his latest film, Klara and the Sun. The director said the project has been shelved for now as he works on other films. He did not provide a timetable for when development might resume.
Waititi’s involvement with Star Wars was originally announced in 2020. Earlier this year, he discussed wanting to recapture the adventurous spirit and humor of the original films. Despite the current delay, the filmmaker has not ruled out revisiting the project in the future.
