The supernatural horror film Other Mommy, starring Jessica Chastain, has claimed the top spot at the North American box office, earning an estimated $27.5 million during its opening weekend. Released by Universal Pictures, the film exceeded initial audience expectations despite receiving largely unfavorable reviews from critics and moviegoers.

The horror thriller opened in 3,365 North American theaters, becoming another commercial success for producer Blumhouse Atomic Monster. With a reported production budget of approximately $19 million, the film generated a substantial opening-weekend return. International audiences contributed additional revenue, bringing its estimated worldwide debut to $45.2 million across 50 markets.

Meanwhile, filmmaker Aaron Sorkin experienced a disappointing opening with The Social Reckoning, which earned approximately $5.5 million from 2,606 theaters. The drama, centered on a Facebook whistleblower, reportedly cost approximately $30 million to produce. Other notable box office performers included Verity, Resident Evil, and Heart of the Beast, while the overall domestic box office surpassed $8 billion for 2026.

The contrasting performances of Other Mommy and The Social Reckoning demonstrate the continued commercial appeal of horror films, particularly as studios navigate changing audience preferences and increasingly unpredictable theatrical openings.
